My Final Post 2017

   

Here are some photos of 2017 in Rm 19. This year is my last year at primary but it has been amazing hut chaotic. I am so so sad to leave but I am also very exited to go to intermediate. I will miss all my friends and I will miss Mrs. P.

Wonder Language Features

WALT: recognize and understand specific language features

I was able to understand the meanings for different language features eg. personification, idioms, hyperbole. I also took my time to read what each meaning meant for each language feature.

Next time I will use some sticky notes to help me remember what each language feature meant. 

Auggie's Classroom - Perimeters

WALT: identify and use the perimeter rule to calculate the size of Auggie’s classroom.

I was able to make sure that the top and bottom decimal number were the same length and that the sides were the same length and also I was able to draw out an irregular shape and add the decimal amounts together. I learnt that if the top and bottom is longer than the sides it has to be a bigger decimal.

Next time I will try and make a more harder irregular shape.

Precious McKenzie

WALT: Edit my Precious McKenzie writing independently to identify errors and get my work ready for Book Creator publishing.

I was able to find my spelling mistakes and fix the red lines under the words. I was also able to re-read my story to make sure there were no words missing in my sentences.

Next time when I find facts I will add more detail to it.

Wonder Portrait

This is my own Wonder Portrait with a quote. Rm 19 made these really cool Wonder portraits because we are reading a book called Wonder, it has a little boy called August in it. We made this on Wonder Creator and we could design our own wonder portrait and choose a cool precept to put with it.

Kindness Poem

WALT: use new words to suit my acrostic poem

I was able to use new words in my acrostic poem that I have not used in my writing before, eg. Kindhearted and Everlasting. I was also able to use examples of kind words/kind actions in my sentences.

Next time I will try and use more new words in my poem and use a theasaurues to replace words that I have used before and change them into words I haven't used.

Recount - Writing

Write a rad recount:

I was able to use paragraphs and year 6 words.

Next time I need to use time connective words without being asked.

John Pule Art

This was for our art exhibition. This was my reflection and art work.

Adidas VS Nike

We had to choose two different shoe brands and do facts about each one. I chose Adidas VS Nike. I learnt that Nike has about 44,000 employees in worldwide.

Ghost - Thinking Bubbles

Room 19 has been listening to Ghost and in a part of the story Ghost is starting a race. We had to make a google drawing each and had to write thinking bubbles on what we think ghost might be thinking when he started the race. I made four thinking bubbles.

5 Tips on using a Calculator

WALT: Use a calculator accurately

I was able to make 5tips on how to use a calculator.

Next time I am going to make my Tips have more information and details.

My 3G Story

I had to write a story and we had to include Good Thoughts, Good Deeds and Good Words. We had gone on a trip to the Buddhist Temple and they had a story competition and we had to write a story with the 3Gs.

Speech Video - Julia

WALT: Deliberately choose words to create an effect on the audience.

Room 19 said there speech in the front of the class and it was about Why winning is not as important as participating?. I think I did good on Eye Contact and I nearly read my whole speech without Q-cards.

Diabetes

WALT: Using the internet to locate, select and evaluate the text for specific information including internet sources.

Rm 19 have been listening to Patina and in the story Patinas Mum has Diabetes. So we made a slideshow of Diabetes. We searched up What it is? What the symptoms are? What are the causes? How can it be treated? and How do you live with it?

Ghost Maths

WALT: Use a calculator accurately

I was able to:

• I Pressed the buttons firmly so the number shows up on the screen.
• Entered the plus symbol after I had entered the numbers.
• I remembered to include the decimal point for every number eg. $34.00 was $3400
• I only pressed the equal sign once.
• I Made sure that I entered the number correctly 

Next time use the calculator to find percentages. Eg. $255.59 less 45% discount.

Speeches 2017

Walt: deliberately choose words to create an effect on the audience.

In my speech I was able to use persuasive words in my speech to make the audience agree with me that winning is not as important as participating and hook the audience.

Next Time I need to put more emotion words in my speech so I can hook the audience.

Celebrations Dance

WALT: Understand that people celebrate in different ways
Me and Everest did a slideshow on Celebration Dances. I was able to write down different dances and understand that people celebrate in different ways.

Ghost - Making a Prediction

WALT: make a prediction based on the cover and blurb of Ghost by Jason Reynolds.

I was able to predict why I think the illustrations are on the cover and why these pictures have been used and also I predicted the story good. I predicted what illustrations would been on the cover.

Next time I am going to try and predict more and read the text and blurb slowly.

Usain Bolt

WALT: Locate and Evaluate information about Usain Bolt on the internet.
I was able to get 5 facts about Usain Bolt and add some Pictures and videos and Locate information about Usain Bolt on the internet.

Next Time I need to Evaluate more information on the internet.

Matariki Celebration - Phases of the Moon

WALT: accurately identify and organise the phases of the moon.

I learnt that there are 8 phases of the moon and that waxing means bigger and waning means smaller.
I only knew the New Moon, Full Moon, 1st quarter and last quarter.

Next time I will find more information about the Waning and Gibbous.

Boxing Day

WALT: understand passing on messages is important so we understand why we celebrate.

In my group (Me, Everest and Coco) did a slideshow about Boxing Day. We were able to choose to do Boxing day, Labour Day, Queens Birthday and Easter. We wrote facts about Boxing day and did when, what, where and why.  We also put in some pictures and we put a video which explained about Boxing Day.

I think Boxing day is important because it celebrates when the servants of the wealthy go and visit their family and they are given box with food and gifts.

Venn Diagram - Jess and Leslie

WALT: Compare and contrast the characteristics of Leslie and Jess.

I was able to compare Jess and Leslie with there characteristics, character traits and there personality and the same things in common.

Next time I will try and have some more of the same things and more detailed and pacific characteristics.

A-Z Celebrations

Room 19 got into groups and had to write celebrations that started with each letter of the alphabet. I was with Everest and Melaniah.

Around The World Celebrations

WALT: identify and understand the different ways that birthdays are celebrated around the world.
Room 19 had to choose a country and write the activities, food, song and a map of the country. I did South Africa.

Bridge to Terabithia

WALT: I am learning to make a prediction based on the cover and blurb.

I was able to find the keywords in the blurb easily and make predictions based from the cover and blurb. I also was able to find the common elements from the covers of the book. I was able to skim and skam the blurb.

Next time I will try and predict more information for my prediction and add more detail.

Multiplication Strategies

WALT: use a variety of multiplication strategies to solve problems.

I halved the even number and also halved the smallest number and doubled the odd number and also doubled the biggest number.

I was able to do doubling and halving easily because it was easy to halve one number and double the other number and i picked the right one to double and halve.

It was a bit tricky to do Rounding and Compensating because I didnt know what to round the number up to so it will become an easy equation.

Next time I am going to try and not get stuck on the rounding and Compensating.

Quotation Marks

WALT: use a wide range of advanced punctuation correctly.

My Reflection:
I was able to identify where the speech marks had to be and have a capital letter at the beginning of the quotation marks.

Next time I need to know if there saying something or if its a statement or a report.

Now and Then Birthdays

WALT: Compare and contrast birthdays
I was able to tell the difference for the 2017 and the 1967 but I didn't really know what was the same.
Next time I am going to try and put some more in 2017 and some more of my own.

WALT: Edit and revise my Camp Merc writing for clarity and impact in response to feedback.

Next time I am going to ask someone who is really good at feedback and ask for feedback

Learning Reflection:

I was able to participate in all activities and I tried my personal best.

Next time I will  try my hardest on the giants ladder because Everest was trying to lift her self up.

Reading/New Vocabulary

Walt : Look on your own for new words to increase the amount of words we understand.
Learning Reflection:
I actively went onto clarification sheet to put my new word and I do it without being asked.

I need to start bringing my notepad and pencil when I do SSR so the next time I add a word I will add the ones on the notepad.

Kennings Poem

WALT: Write relevant and irrelevant ideas about myself in my kennings poem.
I was able to write relevant and irrelevant ideas about only myself like A caramel hater and A Jack Russell lover.

Next time I am going to try and put some more ideas and some more details in my sentences.

Statistics

Walt : display data on histogram, tally chart

Walt : interpret information from histograms and tally marks eg. medium, mode, range, mean

I was able to get the Name score into the Histogram and for the tally marks I found the difficult because I got confused.

Here is some of the statistics I interpreted

• The most popular mode for the full name was 22.
• The most biggest score for the first name median score was 21.
• The smallest last name score for mean was 10.34.
• The smallest mode is 11.
• The most biggest mean score 21.13

My next step is to do it again but do it with different information.

Spelling - 45 Letter Sounds

Walt: use different spelling pattern and strategies to increase my word knowledge.

There are 45 letters sounds in the English language.  Sometimes these sounds are made by one letter and sometimes they are a made by a group of letters together.  Learning these letter sounds will help me spell unknown tricky words and increase my word knowledge.

10 things you need to know about me...

Walt : use advanced punctuation

We have learning how to use bullet points correctly in my 10 Things About Me slideshow.  I learnt you need to :

• Place the bullet point in the margin.
• Use a capital letter after the bullet point.
• If you have written a sentence, end it with a punctuation eg. fullstop.
• Bullet points are used to create lists.
• Find the bullet points icon on the right hand side at top of the tool bar called bullet lists.
• You need to be inside a text box to do bullet points.

Next time I will try and use bullet points in more of writing.

My Reflection:
This Year I am looking forward to Camp and the sports this year and I'm also looking forward to PB4L. The learning I'm looking forward to is maths. I'm also looking forward to my new Wet Day monitor job.
My goals this year:

• To get 100 gold ticks.
• To get into Gymnastics.
• To get a principles award.
• To get in to kappa Haka.
